Ceili lessons

Hello,
I've been watching what are, I think, Ceili set dances at Friday Night Waltz with admiration and a tinge of envy. I enjoy set dancing and this looks like fun, so I'd like to learn. I currently live in the South Bay (Mountain View). I've run across a few postings on the web about Ceili in the South Bay, but nothing looks current. So, a few questions...

Is there any regular venue for Ceili in the SB (or any at all)?
Mondays look like the best night at Starry Plough. Are there lessons there any other time?
Does anyone regularly travel to SP from the SB (fun with acronyms!)? How do you get there (drive, public transit, a mix)? How long does it take? If people drive, does anyone have interest in carpooling?

As a side note, some of you may recognize me from FNW and now a couple of PEERS events. I'm a bit shy in a big crowd where I don't know anyone, but I really enjoy going. I'm looking forward to getting to know more people. So if you run into me and I'm quiet, it's most likely a combination of being shy and being unsure of dance etiquette. Any help in breaking the ice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

No. while there have been past attempts, there currently aren't any. What we do is pretty much a uniquely Plough thing.

No. Just Mondays. 7-9pm every monday. This is a 2 hour class - you can't arrive at 8pm.

Some folks have been known to drive - all the ones I know are on tribe, so I'll leave it to them to speak up.

Stop being shy! Shyness never helped anything or anyone!

    Hi Hod,

I've never been to the Plough, but am vigilantly on the look out for South bay ceili lessons as well. I see you're on the FNW tribe - check out the listing for this Saturday in Oakland where some Ceili dancing will be taught.

I'm still scheming to find time to make the trek; if I go I'll drop you a note and perhaps we can carpool.

      Hi M,
I'm definitely planning on going to FNW this, um, Saturday. :) I did see that there will be Ceili taught, but it will be the first time I've had a chance to learn Bohemian National Polka, too. I'm torn, but I think I will go for the polka. Like someone said elsewhere, there's a lot going on that night!

Carpooling would be cool. Let me know. Thanks!

PS I love the art in your album.

Yes, there has been regularly-scheduled (twice/month) set dancing in Cupertino for a number of years. Though I don't know what the turnout is like, here is some of the information from yesterday's email announcement:

    Britannia Arms
    1087 S De Anza Blvd
    Cupertino/San Jose

    this Wednesday
    8pm--10pm, $5 donation requested.

the next six dancing dates for the Arms Wednesdays are:

    JUNE 13 & 27
    JULY 11 and 25
    AUGUST 8 and 22

I think the teaching may be done somewhat informally before the evening starts, depending on how many newcomers show up. Then they probably have a bit of teaching or walkthroughs before each dance. The organizer does encourage newcomers to check it out, and for people to bring friends along, so presumably they will take the time to show people how to do the dances.
